TAVISTOCK golfer James Ruth, 21, (who featured in the Times last month) returned from Emporda, northern Spain not having qualified for the European Tour 2007. Despite shooting rounds of 70,71,76 and 66, it was the third day's play that was his undoing and he finished 48 out of 83 contestants. Anthony Sherlock, a spokesman for Tavistock Golf Club, said: 'Plans for next year's participation on the Europro Tour which plays mainly in the UK and some European courses will include one local venue, Bovey Castle, near Moretonhamstead, during August. Also, he is hoping to be invited to some of the European Tour tournaments during the summer. 'Early next year James plans to head off to Lake Nona in Florida, USA, where he will undergo extensive coaching for a three to five week period. Providing James finishes in the top five seeding of the Europro Tour he will gain automatic qualification to the European ChallengeTour 2008.' James said: 'I am obviously disappointed that I did not qualify, but being my first year it was a great experience and I am very excited about 2007 embarking on my new professional career.'
