THE final of the Tavistock Golf Club Championship will be a repeat of last year?s encounter between James Ruth and Alan Gawman.
James eased past Willie Read by 4 and 3, while Alan overcame Graham Ruth by 4 and 2.
Initially, Graham?s lack of recent practice did not show as he birdied the second, and looked comfortable as he shared another birdie at the fifth. Alan brought it back to all square at the sixth, but a 14-foot putt at the seventh put Graham one ahead again.
At this level any slight opening is usually punished and when Graham missed the green with his second at the eighth and ninth, Alan notched two birdies to be up at the turn.
At the 12th Alan went two up, and a three putt at the 14th meant the beginning of the end. Alan?s second shot to the 16th was only a foot away, and Graham conceded the match. Good match and good sportsmanship.
