I REGULARLY read your paper from cover to cover and am wondering if I could perhaps pass comment on the incredible amount of nonsense and half-truths that seem to be told week in and week out by various local politicians, wanna-be politicians and certain public officials.
As far as the enhancement works in Okehampton are concerned, West Devon Borough Council have spectacularly failed to consult the public over these works. Yes, in a strict 'legalesque' fashion they have consulted, but come on guys, does anyone really believe that we have been properly consulted over this?
Secondly, has anyone noticed any of our county councillors actually engaging in any activity that has been for the benefit of Okehampton and the area in recent months? No, I thought not.
And finally, after the debacle over the rates vs sports club fiasco, can anyone believe that West Devon Borough Council are now trying to charge rates to all village halls? These being the same halls they have been giving grant money to for so long because their survival is paramount to the survival of the rural way of village life? Come on, village hall committees, tell 'em where to stick it.
I for one have had enough with all this hot air. The only hope I can see on the horizon is our wonderful town mayor. Best of luck with the Lottery EX20, it's so good to see a politician actually doing something positive for a change.
