OUR county council do not seem to understand the problems encountered on a daily basis of those motorists needing to get through or around Okehampton and so perhaps we should invite them to witness a challenge.
The residents of Viano do Castelo in Northern Portugal were equally fed up with a gridlocked road system and so they organised a race.
It was a mile long and the participants were a donkey and cart and a top of the range Porsche sports car . . .
Guess who won! Not the car but the donkey.
Now of course in our case we could harness an official from the Highways Department into the shafts of the cart and in this case see the car win! It would illustrate and exemplify the speed of thought given to projects of this sort.
Whatever the outcome, though, perhaps after putting in some physical effort they would get on and so ?earn their corn? and move the town into the 21st century.
