LEWDOWN maintained their fine home form with an easy victory over Roborough, who beat them earlier in the season by eight runs.
Having won the toss, Roborough elected to bat and were restricted by some fine Lewdown bowling. For the first time this season, Lewdown?s opening bowlers Charlie Hughes and Ade Edmonds bowled their full complement of 13 overs straight off, both taking two wickets.
Both bowled with excellent discipline, consistently putting the ball in the right areas, creating frustration against the usually free scoring Roborough batsmen.
Following this fine opening spell it was important Lewdown followed up the hard work, and change bowlers Mark Jordan and David Ball both did the job. Fifteen-year-old Mark Jordan took a wicket with his first ball, and ended up with 3 wickets for 11 runs from his five-over spell. Sixteen-year-old Dave Ball bowled his bemusing spin taking 3 wickets for 15.
A disciplined and good effort by a Lewdown team missing five of their regular first team, bowling out Roborough for just 135 runs.
In reply, Lewdown lost Jack Skuse early on, but with Dave Ball in fine form, were never really in trouble. Ball carried his bat for a fine 51, with good contributions from Brenden Worth with 24 and Charlie Hughes with 28 n.o.
Lewdown 20 points beat Roborough 3 points by 7 wickets, keeping Lewdown and indeed Roborough in contention for the all important top six position. There are six teams all within 30 points of each other, and with three games to go there is everything still to play for.
Next game away to Woodland Fort.
