Tavistock Lions have now put the final touches to a packed programme of events at their Summer Party — and the club is urging everyone to come and join in the fun!
Graeme Ugle, who has been co-ordinating the party, said arrangements for the day had been going 'very well'.
Graeme said: 'Whatever the weather, the rain won't stop the party that's for sure. The message we want to get out is to join in and make it an event to remember.'
Graeme said the club hopes the wide range of events organised will appeal to all ages and tastes.
He said: 'Obviously we are all looking forward to it. We want to create what clearly will be a memorable occasion for the town, something we hope in due course will go down in the history of Tavistock.
'It's really a town exercise and we are hoping all the residents of Tavistock will, at some point during the day, make an appearance and participate.'
A children's funfair will be held all day in the Guildhall car park, while the signal for the start of the celebrations will be a rocket and flares fired from the viaduct at noon, when the parish church bells will start to ring.
The 'song beacon' will be sung at 1pm — an event co-ordinated by the BBC in which people across the UK will simultaneously sing the famous Beatles record 'All You Need is Love'.
Graeme said: 'The BBC have given us quite a bit of backing — they've also supplied us with large banners to erect and a whole supply of balloons with the words to the song on them.'
The BBC bus will be in Bedford Square with live music for half-an-hour from 12.15pm.
During the lunchtime period there will be an open air disco in Bedford Square with DJ John Ellis, while inside the town hall, a 1950s dance band will entertain the visitors to a 1950s-style ideal home exhibition. Buffet lunches will be available and the town hall bar will be open.
When the disco finishes at 2pm, Stannary Brass Band will take over with a Golden Jubilee Concert in the square — more live music will accompany those partaking of cream teas in the pannier market during the afternoon.
The mayor of Tavistock, Cllr Ken Sanders, will lead a procession to Bedford Square before giving an address — this will be followed by a united service of thanksgiving at 3.30pm.
There will be more live music in the square from harpist Abigail Bowen-Pine, Blowzone, Tavistock College Recorder Consort and local bands including Orca, No Comply, Curby, the Honky Dory Rhythm Works and a guest group.
The final performance will be from the Tavistock Band Ensemble, before the mayor lights the jubilee beacon near the Pimple on Whitchurch Down, accompanied by a firework salute to the Queen.
Cllr Sanders said he was looking forward to Monday and to performing his second mayoral engagement since taking office last week.
His first official duty was to open Tavistock Steam Fair on Sunday.
Cllr Sanders said: 'It will be a once-in-a-lifetime situation for me and I am very much looking forward to a day of enjoyment and spectacle.
'The Lions have done a fair old job of organising it and it will be a day for Tavistock people really, as most people outside will have their own events.'
And this is likely to be the case, as villages throughout West Devon and East Cornwall have organised a host of different jubilee entertainments.
Lamerton playing field will be the focus for village celebrations which include a tea party, hog roast, ferret racing and fireworks.
More street and tea parties are taking place at Postbridge, Metherell, Yelverton, Gulworthy and Gunnislake among others.
