Tavistock 2nd XI 1
United Services 3rd XI 1
THIS was a match Tavistock Seconds hockey team should have won as they played some excellent hockey from the start.
Newman Jnr, armed with his new stick, had a splendid game making some telling runs down the left wing backed up by Andrews.
On the other wing, Mackintosh again played well throughout. Lethbridge was very much in control at the back.
Tavistock were unlucky not to score on a number of occasions but US were the first to find the goal from one of their infrequent chances when they put in a deflection — the first time goal keeper Moyse touched the ball was to pick it out of the back of the net!
Rowe then put the ball in the net from the edge of the D, but the umpire decided it was outside the area, much to everyone's surprise.
During the second half Tavistock again took control with Rowe and Wills making some excellent runs into the opposition twenty five. Greenaway, playing centre forward, put the ball in the net from close range to equalise.
This was a splendid all round performance by Tavistock, a good start to 2001.
