A RURAL regeneration project promoting the beauty of the countryside of North West Devon is to be launched with the opening of the Ruby Trails.
A week long programme of guided trails starts on Monday and a grand fete at Cookworthy Forest Centre near Halwill Junction on June 21 will showcase the Ruby Country Initiative, which aims to invigorate the economy around Hatherleigh and Holsworthy.
Ruby Country is being developed as a visitor destination and local attraction encompassing the environmental, cultural and other assets of the area. The initiative takes its name from the county?s red ruby cattle.
Circular trails have been established ranging from one to seven miles in length, with information boards helping visitors to appreciate the flora and fauna.
Chair of the initiative Des Shadrick said: ?This will be a super activity to showcase the trails and the future of the Ruby Country Initiative.
?Its focus is on a sustainable future, encouraging visitors to stop, spend their money and their time on local products and services while also enjoying North West Devon?s natural beauty.
The project is funded by North West Devon LEADER Fund, West Devon Borough Council, Devon Wildlife Trust and Devon County Council.
