PARENTS from Tavistock Children's Centre Young Parents' Group recently finished creating a story sack for their children, with help from Family Learning.

Young mothers were able to concentrate on their work while the children were looked after by staff from the children's centre.

In a five-week course all parents made fantastic story sacks which contained a range of creative props to give their children hours of fun and entertainment and promote a lifelong love of books.

A spokesperson for Family Learning said: 'Story sacks are an excellent way of increasing enjoyment of a book by using puppets and props to act out the story.

'Using a variety of literacy and numeracy games encourages pre-reading development for children at a time when they are learning to talk.'

Family Learning is part of Devon Adult Community Learning. It runs courses across West Devon in pre-schools, primary schools and community settings and gives information on how children learn and keeps parents up to date with current teaching methods.
