HATHERLEIGH Festival kicks off next week, with more community involvement in the four-day programme than ever before.

Events include Hatherleigh Players performing Shakespeare?s The Taming Of The Shrew, a local artists? exhibition and the ever popular Hatherleigh Silver Band. Hatherleigh Area Project have generously sponsored the marquee.

Claire Gladstone, the festival co-ordinator, said: ?It is fantastic to get support from Hatherleigh Area Project as the festival is now a very important part of our community.?

Hatherleigh Area Project is part of the Market and Coastal Towns initiative. Charles Coffin, development

worker for the project, said: ?The festival is good for local businesses and tourism, and draws in people from far afield, and it brings cultural events to an area that people wouldn?t otherwise see. It is also a great chance for the community to get together.?

Headline guests at the festival which runs from next Thursday, (July 10) to Sunday (July 13) include Joey the Lips, Punk and Judy who have appeared at Glastonbury Festival, and Daniel Pailthorpe, the lead flautist with the BBC symphony orchestra.
