PREPARATIONS are underway for the returning Okehampton Rotary May Fair and duck race.
The fair is to take place on Sunday, May 5 — last year's event was cancelled due to Simmons Park being waterlogged. The event will return bigger and better than ever, with some new attractions being planned alongside the return of old favourites.
People can load up their cars with things to sell and bring them along to the fair car boot sale, for a £5 fee. It starts at 10am.
Dartmoor View Dog Rescue will run a Kennel Club licensed dog show on the day. The event is already proving popular, and dog owners are encouraged to enter their canine chums for the event.
Okehampton Excelsior Silver Band and a visiting band from Ashbourne will provide music throughout the day, keeping the festival spirit of the fair alive.
There will be plenty to keep children entertained, with street entertainers, fairground rides, the chance to ride a reverse bike, and climb to the top of the wonky ladder.
Adults can enjoy a licensed bar, selling beer, wine and soft drinks, and the Plymouth Inn will provide a real ale tent. Okehampton Round Table is holding a darts challenge, where people can win drinks or a prize, all to raise money for local causes.
The ever popular duck race also returns, with three races starting at 2pm. First prize in each race is £100, second prize is £25 and third prize £15. The last duck in each race will win £10.
Morris dancers, skittles, music from Richards Time Machine, face painting, a climbing wall and a display of old and vintage tractors are among the other attractions being planned for the day.
