TO source the finest olives a Tavistock based firm makes an annual 'pilgrimage' to southern Spain to bring back to West Devon.

Carol Ellis-Lizana and Roger Pickles are partners in Green2Gold, based in Brentor. They make the journey to southern Andaluscia in February, May and September to check the olive harvests.

It helps that Carol speaks Spanish, as her mother was Chilean.

She came across an olive mill near Seville by accident through a friend and started with an order for 200 litres, which she brought back to West Devon.

Carol said: 'Olive crops are like grapes —there are different grapes which produce different quality wines, and it is the same with olives.'

They found demand for the oil grew and now has a store twice a week in Tavistock Pannier Market as well as supplying wholesalers, restaurants and delicatessens with eight different types of olive oils. Green2Gold also display at shows and this is their fifth Okehampton Show.

Carol added: 'We love coming here, its very friendly and there are lots of people who come. It's a very local show.'
