Bodmin Trophies Duchy division 4 east
Mary Tavy 6
St Stephens Borough 0
IT was sweet revenge for Tavy as they hotted up the pace for the league title. It was a class display by a team determined to make up for the humiliation at their opponents' ground by their awful display earlier in the season.
Right from the start, Tavy took the game to their opponents with the midfield dominating the centre of the park. They won a free kick just outside the 18-yard box. With the forwards lining up at the back post
Mark Piper fooled them all with a deft chip over the wall for Scott Dent to peel away and volley in for the opener.
St Stephens were rocked and Tavy made them pay with another super strike from leading scorer Alan Grylls. Dan Brockington added a third before the break and Tavy had a firm grip on the game. James Coole added a fourth - his fourth in as many matches - and Mark Piper calmly found the corner after intercepting a pass across the Borough goal.
All that was left was for Piper to complete his brace, collecting the ball on the edge of the area and gleefully smashing it into the roof of the net to complete the rout and excite the jubilant Tavy management team of Piper and Stephens.
With five games left Tavy must fancy their chances to lift a well deserved title, and with these sort of performances will look forward to life in Duchy 3.
Lamerton 2
Callington 1
FOLLOWING the previous week's defeat, Lamerton bounced back to win before a young team which played excellent football.
The home side took the lead after 15 minutes when man of the match Jimmy Cole scored, then made it two, expertly converting a Will Cann through-ball.
The half-time score stood at 2-0 with Lamerton well worth their lead. The second half began with Callington scoring from a screamer from outside the area which flew into the top corner of the net.
The match swung from end to end with both sides having chances. Tony Jones made a great save to prevent the scores being levelled, while at the other end Cole, Steve Wickett and Matt Wills all caused problems for the visitors' defence.
The Lamerton back four looked solid with Simon Breyley dominant in the air and Paul Doidge looking assured for his first full game of the season.
