Bodmin Trophies Duchy division 4 cup semi-final second leg

Torpoint 1

Lamerton 1

LAMERTON travelled to Torpoint with a four-goal lead from the first leg hoping to progress into the final for the first time.

Torpoint, playing with the slope in the first half, began the brighter and only a superb save from Pete Daniel stopped them taking the lead after five minutes.

As the half wore on the home side got more on top, playing good one-touch football but solid defending from Tim Lyle and Simon Breyley and inspirational keeping from Daniel and a fair slice of luck kept the scores level until five minutes before half-time. Then an inswinging ball from the left from Gary Metters found its way into the net to reduce the overall deficit to three goals.

All that Lamerton produced in the first half was a shot from outside the box from Paul Cowling which went narrowly wide and a close range effort from Grahame Cole which the home keeper saved well.

Feeling fortunate to be trailing by only one goal Lamerton brought on an extra midfielder in the second half in an attempt to close up the game. The tension was relieved after ten minutes when Lee Wickett latched onto a Cowling pass to lift the ball over the keeper for the equaliser and the all important away goal.

The visitors then relaxed and created a few more chances with Wickett coming close on two occasions and Simon Pocknell hitting the upright.

This Saturday Lamerton again visit Torpoint but this time in the league, kick-off 2.30pm.
