REMEMBER Friday, December 29? Well that was the wettest day of the year, according to Dave Thomas from Tavistock. Mr Thomas has been collecting daily weather information, ranging from rainfall levels to heat temperatures, in the Tavistock area for the past five years. On Friday, December 29 a total of 62mm (2.5ins) of rain was collected with parts of Dartmoor collecting 90mm (3ins). Mr Thomas said this day was the wettest 24-hour period since he moved to Tavistock in 2000. The coldest day of 2006 was on Friday, February 10 with the temperature being minus 5.5C (22F), and the hottest Wednesday, July 19 with the temperature being 29.5C (85F). The total of rain that fell in 2006 was 1,442mm (57.93ins) and is the second wettest year since 2002 which had a total of 1,774mm (70.85ins).
