TAVISTOCK Under 14s went to Ireland on their first ever tour. The opening game was in the heart of Irish rugby, Limerick. Playing St Mary?s they discovered how hard the Irish play the game. The game was lost 41-21 but Tavy were the only team to score any tries at St Mary?s home pitch this season, the boys of St Mary?s played hard on the pitch but their hospitality after the game was second to none. They and their parents were warm and welcoming and numerous new friends and contacts were made in Ireland. Tavistock played in a tournament in Ballincolig the following day. The first game was against a touring team Surrey. Tavistock lost that in the last minute by two quick tries 14-5. In the second game they played their hosts. Again a hard fought fight which was lost in the last few minutes from a breakaway try 12-5. The team came out victorious in their final game. The tour itself was a great success, the hospitality found does the Irish credit, they are warm welcoming people with a passionate love for the game.
