I WOULD like to take the opportunity through the Times of thanking everyone who helped out on the Tavistock Community Primary School Summer Fayre on Friday June 15.
Many local businesses donated goods for the raffle and for other stalls and I would like to say how much their support is appreciated. We also had donations from as far afield as the Eden Project and Paignton Zoo, not forgetting Toshiba in Plymouth who provided us with the grand raffle prize of a colour television.
The fayre was opened with a wonderful display from the Plymouth Raiders and we were entertained during the evening very professionally by Flute cocktail and the Sideez, both local groups.
A highlight of the evening was the release of 350 helium balloons in a race to see which will fly the farthest. So if you find one of these, please return it to the school.
Despite the rain, the fayre raised approximately £1,700 which will be used to enhance the education of the children at the school in a variety of ways, through the purchase of computers, audio-visual equipment, learning resources and support for theatre in education activities and school trips to name but a few.
The fayre would not be such a success without the huge effort made by all the people, parents, children and staff of the school, who gave their time in planning and preparation, running the stalls on the day, counting the coppers and clearing up afterwards.
I would like to thank them all, especially the fayre committee, Chris Hogg, Pat Bryant, Nicky Hoare and Gio Palmers who have worked very hard on this all year.
