THE appalling truth is that when protest concerning the gross disfigurement of the St James Chapel surrounds eventually falls silent, the crippling irrelevancy of it will remain.

We shall have lost valuable parking space for both taxis and the disabled, a useful alternative to Fore Street and a corner of the town that was, and looked, real, only to create a mockery of the chapel, and an unsightly, hazardous area for all.

To characterize that as 'enhancement' and something 'to be proud of' is to mouth idiocy.

Those responsible for this monstrous abuse of civic responsibility ought now, in all justice, to be made to undo the damage entirely at their own expense. Why, oh, why, when big-headedness proves plainly bone-headedness, should Okehampton be left to suffer?

I CAME. I saw Okehampton being dug up. I went away.

Who gave permission for such disruption in the tourist season?
