A SIMMONS Park Celebration Day could take place this summer if Okehampton-based Wren Trust gets permission from the town council.

The community arts organisation ? which last year was involved in the park?s rededication ceremony ? has approached the council asking to be allowed to mount a park event on Sunday, July 20.

In a letter read out at Okehampton Town Council?s property committee last week Wren?s Marylyn Tucker said they had ?such a good feedback? after last year?s ceremony with people wondering if anything similar was going to happen this year.

She said the trust felt it should do what the town wants, but it needed to know if it should go ahead and plan events.

The letter asked to meet members of the council to discuss the event and funding.

Councillor Tony Leech moved to agree to the idea in principle and set a date for a meeting with Wren.

Councillor Christine Marsh suggested a grant form should be sent to the trust.
