RESIDENTS and visitors to Mary Tavy are being invited to lace up their trainers and learn how to use the new outdoor gym equipment, recently installed in the village.
Hard work and organisation by the Mary Tavy Jubilee Group along with a grant from the Tesco Bags of Help scheme has seen an outdoor gym set up at the recreation ground for everyone’s use.
The jubilee group has now organised a session with a personal trainer at the outdoor gym for later this month, to help people understand more about fitness and keeping healthy.
A spokesperson for the jubilee group said: ‘Mary Tavy now has an outdoor gym and while it can be used by anyone at anytime, knowing how to make good use of each of the pieces of equipment will ensure that the most is gained from each exercise session and will enhance the enjoyment of exercising. The outdoor gym is in the recreation ground and consists of five items which between them enable a wide range of exercises.
‘The Mary Tavy Jubilee Group has arranged the first of what it is hoped will be a series of fitness sessions, with a professional, fully qualified and experienced trainer. No-one need worry how fit or unfit they are, everyone can gain something from these sessions. One of the gym items is specifically for wheelchair users. The outdoor gym equipment is intended for adults but is suitable for anyone in their teens or upwards in age.’
The first session will take place on Sunday, October 16 at 3pm and bookings need to be made in advance. If the weather is poor the session will be re-scheduled for a later date.
