Representatives from community enterprises in Spain, Italy, India and Ukraine will visit local charity Westden next week as part of a fact-finding tour to help support women in business. The visitors will be hearing about the work of the charity, as well as visiting a co-operative nursery for children in Plymouth, and Proper Job in Chagford which runs a café, recycling facilities and an organic vegetable garden. The groups from Spain and Italy will be visiting as part of a year-long European Commission-funded programme of study visits and research to encourage more women to set up successful social enterprises. Representatives will also be coming from Crusade, a charity in India with which Westden has worked over the past 10 years. Westden is supporting women?s enterprise projects in South India, which are producing fairly traded textiles and handicrafts for sale in India and locally. Anyone interested in social enterprise or women in business is welcome to meet the international visitors and hear about their work at the Westden offices in Coryton from 11am to 2pm on Wednesday May 17th. Westden International project manager Oz Osborne said: ?This will be an exciting opportunity to share ideas and experience of social enterprise which is far more developed in Europe than here in the United Kingdom.?
