AIDAN Bostock from Okehampton was one of only five British medallists in his first international Judo competition, held in Lommel, Belgium.
The 13-year-old won a very impressive bronze in what was by far the biggest event he has attended since being selected by British Judo for the England squad.
The competition was run over two days and attracted competitors from all over Europe, and it was also a selection event for the Belgium team.
Aidan made a spectacular start winning his first contest by throwing his opponent for Ippon (full score). Fighting in the U15s age band at U60kg he lost his second fight to the eventual silver medallist but came back strong in the third to win again by Ippon giving him the chance to fight for bronze.
Aidan fought hard winning in extra time surprising his opponent with a left handed throw.
The keen youngster trains twice a week at a high performance Judo Centre in Saltash and has just been graded up to 18th mon (brown belt) which is British Judo's maximum junior grade.
