WARD and Chowen land and property agents, based in Tavistock, recently held an auction of two lots of land at the Bedford Hotel, Tavistock. A great deal of interest had been shown in both lots leading to a full to capacity auction room. The first lot was 29.16 acres of bare agricultural land in Milton Abbot. Bidding opened at £70,000 and finished at £127,500 (£4,372 per acre) being bought by local farmers F D H Hocking and Son. Auctioneer Chris Clapham reported that four farmers from the locality fought out the bidding, highlighting the strong demand for agricultural land in the Tavistock area. The second lot was 15.93 acres of pasture and woodland including a building containing stables near Callington. Bidding finished at £56,000 (£3,515 per acre) being bought by local landowner D G Johns.
