Axminster Town 3 Hatherleigh Town 2 THIS turned out to be an extremely competitive cup. Hatherleigh playing their best football of the season took the lead midway through the first half. James was on hand to knock the ball over the line from close range. With plenty of opportunities to extend their lead Hatherleigh were unable to find the killer touch to finish off Axminster. The home side?s equaliser came just before the interval, when a lapse in concentration enabled Axminster?s forwards to get in behind Hatherleigh?s back four. The second half saw the home side take the game by the scruff of the neck. Two exceptional goals seemed to have put the match out of Hatherleigh?s grasp. But with only a few minutes left Hatherleigh?s James scored his second goal of the afternoon, making it a very intense finale to this Devon Premier Cup tie. But at the final whistle Axminster had progressed into the next round. This week: Clyst Valley (home).
