STAFF and students at Callington Community College were given a rare insight into the workings of the House of Lords last Friday when Baroness Dean of Thornton-le-Fylde visited the college.

The visit was part of the successful Peers in Schools outreach programme run by the House of Lords to help engage the public, and particularly young people, in the wide ranging work the House of Lords does and the important role of Parliament.

Baroness Dean was, as Brenda Dean, the first British woman to lead a major craft or industrial trade union, namely the print union SOGAT.

She is pictured here with some of the students.
