Wintry weather has grabbed much of the attention in Okehampton this week, but there’s been loads going. on — here are the main stories in this week’s Okehampton Times:

• Last Thursday’s snowstorm caused havoc on the roads around Okehampton but Friday’s ‘snow day’ created lots of fun for children who had the day off school — we have 3 pages of snow pictures.

• Members of the newly-formed executive of the OkeRail Forum recently met with Devon county councillors at County Hall to discuss progress of plans to provide a year-round regular train service between Okehampton and Exeter.

• A community of park homes between Okehampton and North Tawton now has a lifesaving defibrillator in place after a successful fundraising campaign organised by one of the residents.

• Runners in Chagford are being invited to take part in a 24-hour community relay run around the town in memory of a well-known member of the community who died of cancer in September.

• An attempt to secure Hatherleigh a place in the Guinness Book of Records is being staged as part of efforts to save Hatherleigh Market for the community.

• Members of Okehampton Fairtrade Group have been celebrating the renewal of the town’s Fairtrade town status with the town council.

• Eight pages of local sport, including coverage of the OCRA Flyers’ competition success and Okehampton Hockey Club’s unfortunate penalty shootout defeat in the England Hockey Second XI Cup.
