A WEST Devon journalist has been nominated for a national award for his humanitarian work in the UK and overseas. Ian Robinson of Sortridge near Horrabridge has been nominated for the Rotary Great Britain and Ireland humanitarian journalist of the year awards by Tavistock Rotary Club. Ian has covered a wide range of stories over the years, including the work of Raleigh International in Malaysia and Mongolia, aid trips to post Communist Russia and mine clearance activities and post war life in Bosnia Herzogovina. He has carried out three recent aid trips to Bosnia, providing a community the size of Tavistock with a Land Rover for mine clearance work, food, clothing, blankets, medical supplies, children?s books, clockwork radios, three cows in calf and quantities of vegetable seeds. David Glover, secretary of Tavistock Rotary Club, said after the club heard about the national award, members invited Ian to make a presentation about his work. Mr Glover said it was ?without hesitation? that the club decided to accept Ian as its candidate for the award. ?If Ian is successful, he will be presented with the award at the RIBI Conference to be held in Belfast in April. ?It would be good to see a local person receive this prestigious award,? said Mr Glover.
