FUNDRAISING committee members in Yelverton are among a number of volunteers being recognised by NSPCC's Volunteer Heroes event this week. The West Devon NSPCC volunteers are part of more than 10,000 people who undertake a wide range of activities on behalf of the children's charity. The Yelverton group, each year, organises popular events including a spring supper, a coffee morning and lunch and a plant sale. Sonja Cheadle, chair of the Yelverton fundraising committee, said: 'I feel honoured that our committee has been recognised. All our members are very hard working and care so much about the NSPCC — some of them have been volunteering for the charity for decades. It is very satisfying to work together to raise money for such a great cause.' Alison Armer, NSPCC community fundraising manager for Yelverton, added: 'The members of the Yelverton fundraising committee are an amazing group of people. 'Each event is expertly organised and well supported. Every year they raise thousands of pounds to help fund our vital work with children and young people in the local area, for which we cannot thank them enough.' The NSPCC is currently appealing for more fundraising volunteers in Yelverton. 'The support of the Yelverton committee has been invaluable and we would like to appeal to other local people to become NSPCC volunteers,' added Alison. 'Whether you can spare an hour a week, or just one day to help the NSPCC, we would love to hear from you.'
