TAVISTOCK Athletic Club members were out in force again last Sunday with senior runners participating in a variety of events.

The third club Grand Prix event of the season was the Plympton Mad March Hare 10K, and a dozen or so from the club battled against strong winds and a tough course.

Official results are not yet in, but Chris Eastaugh was first Tavistock man home, in an excellent sixth position.

Fiona Dunn also had a good race and was first lady back overall. Allan Herdman, who finished just behind Chris in eighth position, collected the first M50 trophy.

Over in Exmouth, the final meeting of this season?s Westward League took place and the club achieved more notable success.

In what was probably the toughest of the cross-country courses in the six-event series, seven athletes from Tavistock made the journey and returned with some silverware.

Results on the day - Senior men: Martin Exley, fourth; Robin Musgrave, 24th; Pete Bazley, 33rd. U17 Men: Adam Holland, third. U17 ladies: Louise Elsworth, 19th (position in the combined U17/senior ladies? race). U15 boys: Ross Honey, 15th. U15 girls: Suzy Blandford, ninth.

Overall results for the series saw Martin pick up second place in the M40 category as well as being third overall senior man.

Steve Groombridge, although running elsewhere on Sunday, still achieved first place in his M45 category. Adam Holland capped off a great winter season finishing as first U17 man.
