TAVISTOCK?s Plymouth Road Cemetery will shortly have new public facilities, following conversions carried out by the town council?s works department. The Gatehouse at the cemetery is currently being altered to create a public waiting room and book of remembrance area, which could accommodate up to 20 people. Councillors at last week?s meeting of the town?s properties committee heard costs to convert the Gatehouse were minimal ? and no changes were being made to the fabric of the building, so Listed Building consent was not required from the planning authority. Cllr Ted Sherrell said: ?I think this is a very positive move. The cemetery has always enjoyed a very good reputation in the town. ?One looks to improve things in every aspect of life and death ? I think this is a very imaginative idea.?
