AFTER a very good September, Okehampton Argyle is pleased to report that the club?s first team have maintained their impressive start to the season. In the league, the club still have a perfect record of five wins from five games. October saw two league games both at home and these resulted in Sidmouth Town Reserves being beaten by six clear goals, followed by a narrow 2-1 win over Exeter Civil Service Reserves. It was only in the last ten minutes that the game was turned around from a 0-1 deficit to a win. Player and joint manager Stuart Cann scored the winning goal. The five league games have produced an astonishing record of 27 goals scored with only four conceded. Progress was made in the Devon Senior Cup with a 5-1 victory at Simmons Park against Willand Rovers Reserves and then again at home by 2-1 in a very entertaining game against Culm United of the Devon and Exeter League?s second division. However, the hold on the East Devon Cup is over, beaten by a rather physical Newtown side 5-2 at their ground in Rockbeare. It was rather amazing that having conceded only four goals in five league games Argyle suddenly leak five goals in this one cup tie. The leading scorers to date, in all competitions are Adam Mortimore with 12, Robbie Sandercock with nine and Steve Kinsey on six. It is hoped this encouraging start to the season can be built upon as the club seek an immediate return to the premier division of the Devon and Exeter League. The next home league fixture is scheduled for November 19 when Beer Albion visit Simmons Park. The club is still looking for a match day reporter. Anyone interested should contact Jim Burdus either at the ground on first team match days or by telephone on 01837 53789.
