THE 30th anniversary of the opening to the public of Castle Drogo is being celebrated this weekend with a family fun day focused on life in 1975. Visitors are invited to raid the back of their wardrobes so that they can join the staff at Castle Drogo in dressing as they did in the 1970s. The top pop hits of 1975 and earlier in the decade will be playing all day as visitors Womble the nostalgia trail to explore memories of that time. They will be invited to design their own hip outfit that would have made them stand out on the street. When entering the property visitors will encounter National Union of Trust Staff (NUTS) manning a picket line to demand country homes for all and countryside for everyone! Everyone will be invited to contribute to the memory wall with recollections of visiting the castle over the last 30 years. Vintage cars will be parked outside the castle, as they were when it first opened. People can bring along some tasty 70s snacks to enjoy their very own Abigail?s Party on the lawn in front of the castle as they listen to the sounds of the 70s. Aim for a dash of 70s suburban cool by bringing along vol au vents, cheddar and pineapple on cocktail sticks, mini cocktail sausages, scotch eggs, prawn salad and some Black Forest gateaux washed down by some Black Tower or Blue Nun . . . Mark Agnew, property manager for Castle Drogo said: ?We wanted to have a fun day for everyone to celebrate this very special property first opening to the public 30 years ago. ?Bringing 1975 back to the castle seemed like a fun thing to do and we have many enthusiastic staff and volunteers who just love the music of the time and this gave us the chance to play it! ?We will also be squeezing in to our dramatic outfits of the time to revisit 70s chic and show the young people of today how it was done ? they think their trousers are flared!?
