A PUBLIC consultation on Devon's waste strategy for the next 20 years is underway.

Devon County Council's waste core strategy issues and options consultation report has been drawn up to help identify the most appropriate areas of the county for waste management activities and to provide policies for considering waste planning applications to 2031.

The waste core strategy will consider almost all types of waste including commercial and industrial waste, construction, demolition and excavation waste and hazardous waste, as well as the municipal waste collected from Devon's households.

The public consultation runs until Thursday, July 1. To provide people with the opportunity to comment on the strategy, a number of consultation events will be held at a number of venues, including Tavistock Town Hall on June 29, between 4pm and 8pm.

Council staff will be available to answer questions and discuss waste planning issues at all of the consultation events.

Cllr Will Mumford, Devon County Council's cabinet member for economic regeneration and strategic planning, said: 'Views of the public, businesses and other organisations will be vital to help the county council in developing the direction of the strategy.

'Further consultations will be held over the coming two years as it continues to develop in more detail.'
