AS soon as the opening whistle was blown Tavistock ladies? hockey team went on the attack and put the opposition under major pressure in their D.
The midfield of Kath Collar, Steff Mills and Susannah Harland worked hard to keep the ball above the halfway line and made excellent crosses, but the forwards were not able to take advantage of good penetrative play.
Laura Armstrong and Emma Bowden had some tough opposition in the sense that Falmouth were quite physical, yet these two were determined not to lose the ball through unfair play.
Due to it being a strong attacking game, Fiona Dunn, defence, came up on numerous occasions and put some strikes in on the keeper and across the D for the forwards to slot in.
Triangular passes were being used by Sue Cork, Sue Hornby and Becky Hutton, which enabled the team to put the opposition defence under pressure.
A good ball in from Collar allowed Bowden to get Tavistock on the scoreboard. Minutes later, Hutton had a good strike at the keeper to make the score 2-0.
With the midfield constantly circling the D it was not long before Harland took advantage of the space and tucked in another goal past the keeper.
At half-time the score was 3-0 to Tavistock. With a new game plan the team went back out and Mills, Collar and Armstrong played a good passing game down the right wing. Falmouth broke through the midfield just twice, but Horton, Dunn and Rebecca Creasy made the situation safe.
Numerous short corners were awarded to Tavistock and these were well used with good attacks coming from them. During one, Bowden notched up her second goal and took the score to 4-0.
Hutton scored the last goal of the match with her ?trademark reverse stick hit?.
The team were pleased with their performance but know there is room for improvement in this week?s game against St Austell Seconds.
Player of the match: Fiona Dunn.
