A WEST Highland Terrier has won the most recent Braveheart award, held by Okeford Veterinary Centre last month.

Nine-year-old Humphrey Lawson was chosen for the award after showing outstanding braveness during a life- threatening condition.

Humphrey was bought into the surgery after suffering from symptoms resembling a stroke, which later proved to show he had developed bony spurs on his lower spine.

Over time the pain became worse and Humphrey was referred to a specialist in Bristol.

Following an MRI scan, the experts immediately operated on Humphrey's spine and removed the spurs, which released pressure from his spinal cord.

The practice has seen numerous animals showing outstanding braveness throughout some rare and often life -threatening illnesses in the first seven months of 2009.

All the animals from the last seven months are still continuing to improve and enjoy their new lease of life.
