NOW then, now then . . . the Okehampton Times welcomed a very special guest yesterday (Wednesday) morning when Sir Jimmy Savile visited the paper?s East Street offices.
Jim fixed it to make a quick detour to the Times on the way to celebrate youth rehabilitation charity C-FAR?s first anniversary at its Highampton base where he was one of the guests at an afternoon garden party at Burdon Grange.
Popular entertainer Jimmy was delighted to meet up with old friend Isabel Tolley, from Okehampton, whose daughter, Michelle, works for the Times.
As he left the office Jimmy, sporting his trademark jewellery, tracksuit and trainers, drew surprised stares from passersby who could hardly believe they were seeing the television veteran in the middle of the town.
Sir Jimmy has been a long-term supporter of young offenders? rehabilitation charity C-FAR, first visiting the project two years ago when it was based at Okehampton Army Camp.
