TRANSITION Tavistock and the Tamar Valley AONB team are planning an event where the public can visit homeowners to find out how they have reduced their bills by conserving energy or generating it from a renewable source.

The dates are likely to be Sunday February 12 for Tavistock and surrounding villages, with a follow-up covering the wider Tamar Valley on Saturday March 10.

Simon Bates, from the Cordiale project, based at the Tamar Valley AONB office, said: 'Open home events are attended by thousands of people every year in areas like Bristol, Crediton and Stroud. Experience has shown that they lead to action — as many as 83% of visitors are responding, taking practical steps to improve energy efficiency in their own homes.'

Kate Royston from Transition Tavistock said: 'We have been very encouraged by the success of our growing community of home owners sharing experiences. Energy Savers at Home is our next step to support wider adoption locally.'

The aim of the Cordiale project is to make the landscape and community more resilient to extreme weather events, rising fuel, fertiliser and energy costs. The project was selected under the European Cross-border Cooperation Programme INTERREG IV A France (Channel) — England, co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
