JUST how difficult and costly can it be to close a road in Tavistock for approximately one hour on a Sunday morning for Remembrance?

I note with incredulity the 'ducking and diving' of some of our civil agencies regarding this issue. Surely they should all be working together to resolve this problem in order that the appropriate homage and respect can be shown to all of those who have given their lives on our behalf?

Why should the Royal British Legion be required to meet the cost of a simple road closure? Many of their numbers have paid more than their fair dues and thankfully they did not see fit to hide behind legislation, safety issues and costs when called upon to do their duty.

I suggest that our councillors could easily 'legislate' to set aside an annual amount, from the council tax revenue or such, for an automatic road closure on Remembrance Sunday, if they really wanted to solve this problem once and for all.

So come on councillors instead of reasons why you can't, let's be positive for a change, after all it is a small price, for all of us to pay.
