THERE was a lot of messing about on the river at Morwellham recently, when visitors had a chance to try out a ride in a hovercraft.
Unfortunately insurance problems meant the Tavistock branch of MENCAP?s raft race had to be cancelled this year, but representatives from Hovercraft Heaven in Holsworthy still brought along their boats for enjoyment.
Morwellham site engineer Bob Le Marchant said the MENCAP fundraiser had been a great success with more than 30 teams entered this year so it was a great pity it had to be cancelled.
?It has been growing in popularity over the years and we had steam boats and all sorts planned,? he said. ?We are trying to find a way of putting the event on next year but are looking for involvement from an organisation which can take on the running and insurance side of it.
?Luckily people still got a chance to go up and down the river on a hovercraft which looked a lot of fun.?
