I READ with interest letters on ?Affordable Housing? from Roy Connelly (March 3) and Phillip Sanders (March 10), both of whom mention their political positions. I wonder how many people are aware of what ?Affordable Housing? actually means? By the way, it used to be called ?Social Housing? and before that ?Council Housing?. The bare facts are ? with over 1,000 people on the waiting list, the average key worker with local connections does not stand a chance of seeking independence from their parents and to reverse that around, parents do not gain freedom from their offspring either! I?m afraid young, single working people who have no social problems and young, working, childless couples have no alternative but to pay extortionate rents to private landlords (who in most cases already own their own property and businesses) or stay with their parents and therefore neither enjoy the privacy of their adult life. Tenants who rent privately do not have the ?Right to Buy it? and with little chance of shared ownership in Tavistock what hope do we all have? A parent Name and address supplied
