AN AFFORDABLE housing consultation in Calstock which was scrapped after Cornwall Council admitted it had made mistakes is about to be re-launched.
Housing officers went back to the drawing board after calls to re-start the process were made at a heated public meeting in Harrowbarrow in December, where the council was accused of incompetence.
Affordable housing officer for East Cornwall Christopher Lunn said mistakes had been made, including not consulting parishioners at an early stage about the process, which started several months before with a 'call for land' and behind the scene talks with parish councillors.
Villagers in Harrowbarrow criticised the council for giving conflicting information over potential housing sites for affordable housing, and misinformation.
Some 20 sites had been identified for development across the parish, which has a number of different settlements, but the public was told that only about three of these would end up being developed. Calstock has the highest number of people in housing need in East Cornwall.
The new consultation will take the form of separate consultations in each settlement, with Calstock's planned for late March/ early April, St Ann's Chapel in April and Harrowbarrow and Metherell in May and June.
There will be more information about affordable housing and the local need and a better insight into why these sites have been chosen for potential development.
