MORE than 20 houses and flats are to be built on the old Radmores Garage site on Tavistock's Plymouth Road after West Devon's planning committee gave the scheme the green light this week.

The planning application by Westbury Homes (Holdings) Ltd for 18 three-bedroom houses, four two-bedroom houses and two flats on the 0.53 hectare site was agreed unanimously by the committee at its meeting in Tavistock on Monday.

Although the density of housing on the site was considered 'extremely high', it was in line with previous planning approvals connected with the site, which were for schemes of 25 and 27 houses.

The consent is subject to conditions, which include the removal of permitted development rights for extensions, alterations and outbuildings.

Landscaping on the site will include a 1.5m high Devon bank along the Plymouth Road with a hedge planted on top. Beech hedging will be planted along the south west and northern boundary and trees will be placed within the site.
