THE Horn of Plenty Hotel at Gulworthy has raised more than £6,000 for people living with cancer in Devon.

This brings the total raised by the hotel to more than £68,000 since it began its charity lunches in 2012.

Although the charity lunches had to end earlier this year due to the coronavirus lockdown, the hotel has still been able to donate a significant sum to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Macmillan fundraiser Jo Anne Rigby said: ‘Right now at Macmillan we’re doing everything we can to help people living with cancer but due to the pandemic we are facing a significant drop in our income and the truth is that we can’t continue to be there for people who need us without the support of amazing people like Julie Leivers [owner] and The Horn of Plenty team.

‘We are so grateful to Julie and the team, they put so much into these lunches and every penny raised is so very much appreciated, now more than ever.’

For eight years, The Horn of Plenty’s Charity lunches has supported Macmillan Cancer Support at Derriford Hospital. Opening its doors from January through to March the hotel offers a culinary delight to guests from all over the peninsula with many guests returning year on year.

The Horn of Plenty owner Julie Leivers said: ‘We are so grateful to our team and all our amazing guests. A huge thanks to everyone who has supported us.’

The Horn of Plenty is hoping to re-open from July 4.

Macmillan Cancer Support has funded various cancer professionals at Derriford Hospital including Macmillan nurses, support workers, benefits advisers, dietitians, and psychologists who support the 3,500 residents from Devon and Cornwall who are diagnosed with cancer on average each year.
