THE Castle Hospital in Okehampton has reopened, after fears that it may have fallen victim to the Norwalk virus, which has been sweeping hospitals in the South West.
The hospital was closed last Thursday after a handful of patients contracted a virus which caused diarrhoea.
Spokeswoman for the North and East Devon Health Services Claire Wright said the virus was still unconfirmed but no-one further had been affected by it.
'The hospital was cleaned in accordance with infection procedures and no staff went down with the virus,' she said. 'It reopened to admissions on Monday.'
Wards had to be shut at Derriford and Torbay Hospitals when the Norwalk virus, which causes severe vomiting and diarrhoea, affected hundreds of staff and patients.
