BUDDING new anglers with a wish to fish are invited to take up their rods at a special summer event near Okehampton next month.
The day out at Roadford Lake on Saturday June 26 is aimed at encouraging youngsters to take up fishing as a sport and is part of a nationwide programme of events organised by the Environment Agency.
Lesley Newport from the Environment Agency said: ?The new anglers will also have the opportunity to discover more about what lives in the fishing lakes and how to protect wildlife.
?We want to get people to try a new sport which is already enjoyed by thousands across the country.?
The day will include chances to get one-to-one tuition from a fully qualified angling instructor and all equipment including fishing tackle will be provided for a fee of £5 ? which includes any fish that may be caught!
Gary Champion, the instructor who will be leading the event, said: ?These sessions are to give people a chance to try angling, catch their first fish, and get hooked on fishing for life.?
Places are limited so must be booked in advance but participants will not need to buy a rod licence for the day.
