Devon & Exeter League Premier Division Heavitree Social Utd 5 Okehampton Argyle 1 ALTHOUGH Argyle suffered their heaviest defeat of the season this was not a poor performance. Only three goals in the last nine minutes finally gave league leaders Heavitree a hard earned victory, but up until then it was still anyone?s game. Both sides took time to settle down in the early part of the game. Stuart Cann for Okehampton had the first shot at goal from a free kick just outside the box, but he was well wide of the mark. Heavitree scored the only goal of the first half after 12 minutes, their No 10 beating keeper Clift from close range. Some fine defensive work from Vernon, Soby and Maddax kept the eager Heavitree forwards at bay for the rest of the half, and at that stage, still in with a chance to salvage something. Argyle were back in the game on the hour when a fine ball out of defence by Soby found Sandercock, who made ground down the left flank before passing to Steve Williams, whose cross into the box was side-footed into the net by Matt King. However Argyle were only level for two minutes, Heavitree catching Argyle?s defence asleep to go back into the lead with a well worked goal. Minutes later Argyle were denied a second equaliser when Steve Williams was ruled marginally offside when bursting through the middle to shoot into the corner. Then came those final nine minutes when Heavitree sealed their victory with three late goals. Argyle?s opponent for this week is yet to be confirmed.
