TAVISTOCK men?s hockey team were desperate for a solid win against strong rivals Bude.

They started well, with good linking between Jo Hess and Ricky Bellard. This soon paid off when Tom Honey shot in a powerful cross which Nick Andrews placed in the back of the net.

Tavistock started the second half with all guns blazing, when they scored a second from a square pass from Phil Honey to John Barratt, whose strike was put nicely over the keeper by Andrews for his second.

Bude came back strongly and evened the score.

Tavistock tried hard to keep out the Bude attack with good defensive play from Kevin Lethbridge, Bob Cowan and Rob

Kirby. This finally slipped when Tavistock gave away a short corner which Bude luckily bounced into the goalmouth.

TAVISTOCK were quick to get into the game. Lisa Butler pushed the ball into defence and quickly slotted it onto the backboard to put Tavistock in the lead.

Tavistock made quick tackles on the 25 line from Jo Solman, Nell Trotter and Judy Ricketts. Tavistock pushed to keep possession and with cute passes from Zoe Viggers and Lisa Butler, Robynne Honey, Gaynor Pollard and Sarah Barratt overpowered Plymouth?s defence. Butler claimed another to the score-board putting Tavistock 2-0 ahead.

After substitution which put Fiona Dunn onto the pitch, Tavistock continued to chip away at Plymouth?s defence.

In the second half Plymouth were unlucky not to score after Tavistock gave away two short corners.

Tavistock?s whole team worked superbly and with quick, accurate passes the ball was back in Plymouth?s defence. Gaynor Pollard skilfully scored for Tavistock putting them 3-0 in front.

Both teams pushed hard and the ball travelled up and down the pitch but Tavistock reigned triumphant and after some near misses from Barratt, Honey, Butler and Dunn, Pollard scored again to close the match.
