I WAS sorry to read (Letters, February 2) of the doctor's experience at the Leg of Mutton car park.

The cost of maintaining the machine, warden and vehicle required to police the areas would seem disproportionate to the fees collected or does the warden have a set number of fines to collect to cover his wages?

It would seem more economical to have an honesty box to cover car park maintenance which could be collected each day by a local shopkeeper for a small percentage, The landowners could also bask in the approval of local residents as currently the Leg of Mutton main street has vehicles parked both sides, creating a traffic hazard and the roads close to St Paul's are full of visiting cars.
