TAVISTOCK Ladies hockey team played home to Dartmouth on Saturday.

The game opened with Tavistock having to play extremely defensively as Dartmouth dribbled around the midfield players.

Tavistock were quick to pick themselves up from this lull and proceeded to take ownership of the game. The midfield play of Susannah Harland, Kath Collar and Emma Bowden allowed Tavistock to score the first goal of the match.

A good ball was struck at the goalkeeper from Judy Smallacombe and Lisa Hogan was able to chip it into the back of the net.

The second goal for Tavistock came from being awarded a penalty flick. Judy Smallacombe was the obvious choice to take the shot and flicked the ball past the keeper.

Tavistock scored the third goal from an excellent strike into the D from Sue Gawman and once again Judy Smallacombe was quick to get on the tail end of it. At half-time the score read 3-0 to Tavistock.

In the second half of the match, Tavistock had some near misses and unfortunately had a goal disallowed.

In the last few minutes Tavistock conceded a goal as Dartmouth drew most of the midfield and defence to the middle of the pitch. This left Fiona Dunn having to catch the opposition and then face a one-on-one situation.

Although she contacted the ball it was not enough and Dartmouth scored.

Tavistock would like to thank the Lopes Arms for sponsorship and the Cornish pasties!
