Tavistock 2nd XV 41

Saltash 2nd XV 5

NOT one of Tavistock's better performances and they were flattered by this seemingly emphatic victory at Sandy Park.

Despite overwhelming weight in the pack and a strong back line, countless handling errors and poor rucking gave Saltash the impetus and meant the first 25 minutes were closer then they ought to have been.

Despite resolute defence from Saltash and the continued blight of unforced errors Tavistock took the lead on 26 minutes following a run from the home side's 22-yard line by Glen Martin, whose pace took him over in the left corner.

Tavistock failed to enjoy the dominance in the scrums that has become a feature of recent games and constantly struggled to prevent a well drilled Saltash pack taking control. However, Tavistock finally put daylight between themselves and their opponents following good link up play between the forwards and backs, before a delicate chip by fly-half Josh Sutton for Martin to go over again.

From then on Tavistock controlled open play without getting out of second gear, scoring a further try in the half, converted by Adam Bridgewater.

In the second half, Tavistock made a change of personnel with three substitutions, including Martin Credicott coming back from a groin injury. Three tries were added, all originating from rolling mauls and finished off by flanker Adam James, second row Mike James and right winger Dan Alford respectively, the last one being converted.

Saltash responded with a solitary consolation try before Tavistock scored the winner five minutes from time with a rampaging backs move which was also converted.
